This image was my entry in a recent 3D competition run by 3DLuVr.com. (Sorry about all the pop-ups there...why do they do it?). Anyway, the competition's theme was 'Warrior Tools' for which a sword and shield were compulsory objects. These items were to be placed in a fully constructed scene, which could optionally include other items related to warfare of the cut and thrust variety.
There were thirty-seven entries and this image was voted twelvth by the world's 3D fraternity. Not bad for a first attempt, eh.
The scene is supposed to depict Hadhafang, the fabled sword of Elrond the Elven King (Ref: 'Lord of the Rings' by JRR Tolkien). Here is Elrond's tent, early morning. In the distance, Mordor and Mount Doom. The Elves and other tribes in The Last Allience will attack today. The note (in Elvish) reads: 'The attack on Mordor starts at six sharp. Remember to wear clean underpants. Regards, JRRT'.
I have to admit that this image was done with LightWave8 on a peecee. It could be done almost equally well on the Amiga, but this particular render used a lighting routine (Radiosity) not available in version 5. Rendering also took over 10 hours with a Pentium2/400MHz! I wonder how long my '060/64MHz would take? Might try it sometime. I also need a P4!
After doing a bit of late research into the construction of Elrond's sword, it appears that the one I made here is a typical double-handed Elven sword of the Third Age. Hadhafang was in fact recurved in the blade and somewhat lighter. It was inherited by the princess Arwyn and used to great effect. Think I'll take another shot at it and post it here later.
