A Wild Orchid

(Dactylorhiza fuchsii)

All wild orchids are rare and therefore protected under UK/EU laws. On 25 June 2003, I discovered no less than six specimens growing close together in a local hayfield. They were of the species Dactylorhiza fuchsii, the Common Spotted Orchid. The term 'Common' is relative - most people never see one in their lifetime.

I've included this photo as a record of the occasion.
